WATCH: Israel Police foils smuggling of M-16s from the PA
BREAKING: Police officers operating at the Meggido Junction in northern Israel, stopped a suspicious vehicle whose passengers attempted to smuggle M-16 rifles from the Palestinian Authority into Israel.
The two Muslim passengers were arrested and indictments will soon be filed against them.
The activity was carried out as part of an ongoing campaign against illegal weapons.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 350 weapons -including RPGs, pistols, IEDs, rifles, improvised weapons, grenades and firebombs-, have been seized in the Northern District, 228 suspects have been arrested and 21 have been indicted.
Earlier on Sunday, a female Muslim terrorist was caught with a knife and arrested by security forces at the Qalandiya checkpoint near Jerusalem.
The IDF arrested 14 Muslim terrorists over the weekend in Judea and Samaria, who were wanted for involvement in terrorism and violent disorders directed against civilians and security personnel.
A Sheikh and five high-level Waqf personnel were arrested over the incident on Temple Mount last Friday, in which hundreds of Muslim rioters broke into the Mercy Gate, a large structure that was closed several years ago based on a court order because the group running the area was found to have ties to Hamas.
