US: Iran is planning attacks on US interests in the ME, has moved troops and weapons

BREAKING: There is fresh intelligence in the last month of a potential Iranian threat against US forces and interests in the Middle East, several US defense and administration officials told CNN.

There is evidence that Iran has moved forces and weapons, the officials said.

In November, the commander of US Central Command, which is responsible for US forces in the Middle East, General Kenneth F. McKenzie, said that Iran is planning another attack.

The deployment of 14,000 additional American troops to the Persian Gulf since the spring has probably not dissuaded Iran from planning a major attack on the scale of the recent missile and drone assault on Saudi Arabia’s oil fields, Gen. McKenzie said.

Iran recently started enriching uranium beyond a limit established in a 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers, a deal from which Trump withdrew. Trump has since intensified economic sanctions on Tehran, and tensions have escalated.
