US citizen detained in Lebanon on suspicion of entering from Israel

BREAKING: Lebanon’s army intelligence detained a man on suspicion that he crossed into Lebanon from Israel, says a military official. The country’s state news agency says the detainee is a US citizen.

The Lebanese military has identified the suspect taken into custody as Colin Emery, an American citizen.

State-run National News Agency says Emery is a US citizen who was stopped in the southern port-city of Tyre where he had been staying since Tuesday. According to the report, Emery was being questioned under the supervision of judicial authorities.

“After continuous search operations by the army, a patrol from the Intelligence Directorate managed today to arrest the U.S. citizen Colin Emery after finding him hiding in one of Tyre’s neighborhoods,” the Lebanese military said in a statement Thursday.

The US Embassy says it has seen the media report of the detention and “stands ready to provide all appropriate consular services.”

According to Lebanese reports, Emery is a Jewish American.

IDF investigates break in the fence amid reports of a man crossing the border to Lebanon

The IDF said Tuesday that an investigation is underway following a break in the fence and signs indicating a suspicion that a man crossed from Israel to Lebanon.

Arab sources in southern Lebanon reported that the Lebanese Army was searching for a man wearing an IDF uniform believed to have crossed over the Blue Line into Ayta ash Shab.

Al-Miyadin suggests that Hezbollah terrorists were also involved in the search.
