Turkey invades Syria to battle Kurds: 5 civilians, 3 soldiers killed, dozens wounded

BREAKING: At least five civilians and three Kurdish soldiers were killed and dozens were injured after Turkish airstrikes hit Syria’s border areas to defeat the US main ally in the battle against ISIS terrorists.

Residents in the northern Syrian cities of Qamishli and Derik took to the streets to protest against Turkey’s military offensive, the SDF said.

Footage posted online purported to show a rally in Qamishli, which was earlier bombed by Turkish warplanes, according to the SDF.

President Trump warned Turkey against attacking Syria, saying its air assault was “a bad idea” not backed by the United States, and called on Ankara to protect religious minorities.

“The United States does not endorse this attack and has made it clear to Turkey that this operation is a bad idea,” Trump said in a statement released by the White House.

“Turkey has committed to protecting civilians, protecting religious minorities, including Christians, and ensuring no humanitarian crisis takes place – and we will hold them to this commitment.”

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry slammed Turkey’s military operation, calling it an aggression against Syria’s sovereignty.

In a statement, the ministry condemned “in the strongest words” the offensive and called for the UN Security Council to halt “any attempts to occupy Syrian territories” or “change the demographics in northern Syria”. It also called for an emergency meeting of the Arab League.

The SDF halted operations against ISIS terrorists in Syria amid Turkey’s military offensive.

“The SDF stopped the anti-ISIS operations because it’s impossible to carry out any operation while you are being threatened by a large army right on the northern border,” a Kurdish military source said.

A US official confirmed that some Kurdish (SDF) guards have left their posts at prisons holding ISIS terrorists. “There has been some reduction in manning” at those posts that began yesterday, said the official.

Erdogan announces Operation 'Peace Spring' against Kurds who fought ISIS has started

Turkish troops along with Assad forces have begun “Operation Peace Spring” against Kurdish positions and ISIS terrorists in northern Syria, Turkey’s dictator Recept Tayyip Erdogan announced on Wednesday.

The move came after the United States announced it was withdrawing its troops from the region, effectively abandoning the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), its main ally in the battle against ISIS terrorists.

The SDF, led by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), has denounced Washington’s move as a “stab in the back”.
