Thousands participate in event calling for the return of Israeli citizen Mengistu and KIA soldiers Shaul and Goldin
Around 2,500 Israelis participated on Friday in an event calling for the return of Israeli citizen Avera Mengistu and the bodies of two IDF soldiers Oron Shaul and Hadar Goldin held by Hamas terrorists in Gaza.
Due to the Israeli government’s continued unwillingness to retrieve fallen Sgt. Hadar Goldin’s remains from Hamas and in light of the Gaza border riots, the Goldin family takes to the Gaza border every Friday, to boost the campaign for Hadar’s return.
Yesterday, Zehava Shaul released a video pleading Yahya Sinwar— a Muslim terrorist who was freed in the Shalit terrorists release and is now leader of Hamas— to release her son’s body.
Oron Shaul, an outstanding soldier who served in the Golani Brigade, was killed when the APC he was in was hit by anti-tank missile during Operation Protective Edge. His body was never recovered and he was declared a fallen soldier whose place of burial is unknown shortly afterwards.
Later, however, the family said they regretted accepting the IDF’s version of events and pushed to change his status to captive or missing.
Over the past four years, the family has been fighting, along with the family of Hadar Goldin, to have their son returned to Israel.
