Terror plot to assassinate PM Netanyahu, Barkat thwarted by Shin Bet – Muslim terrorist arrested
A Muslim terrorist cell orchestrated by a Syrian terrorist has been exposed and dismantled in recent weeks, the Shin Bet said Tuesday, adding that the cell’s targets included Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, a Canadian delegation and the US Embassy.
Mohammad Jamal Rashda, a Muslim terrorist with an Israeli I.D. from the Shuafat neighborhood in East Jerusalem, was arrested. He had already served time in jail for terror-related offenses.

During the investigation it was revealed that the terrorist planned a “significant terror attack” against a number of targets, including senior Israeli officials like Netanyahu and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat.
The terrorists member of the cell never met, no money was transferred and no arms were purchased for the end of the attack. The arrest was done at an initial stage of the planning process.
The terrorist also planned to attack the structures belonging to the US Embassy in Jerusalem and a Canadian delegation visiting Jerusalem as part of a training program for the Palestinian Authority security forces. He began collecting information to advance the plan, acting on the Syrian’s terrorist orders.
According to the Shin Bet, the plan also included bringing in “terrorist infrastructure” from Jordan to Judea and Samaria.
In a statement, Barkat praised the Shin Bet for thwarting the terror plot:
“The Shin Bet is among the best in the world. Throughout the investigation, I was updated and I knew that when the Shin Bet is in the picture and the Israel Police is on the ground, I can trust them and go to sleep with a calm mind and safely. During this period, I insisted on not changing anything in my daily routine because we cannot allow terrorism to dictate our schedule.”
