Terror in London: At least 5 people injured in explosion at tube station – Police probe ‘suspicious packages’

The Met Police were investigating a suspicious package at Southgate Tube Station in Enfield, North London, tonight when an explosion rocked the station.

At least five people have been injured in an explosion at a North London Tube station.

Officers were called to the station just after 7pm on Monday evening after reports of people running from the Southgate Station.

Three people have been treated at the scene for minor injuries and two have been taken to hospital.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known. Police say it is not thought to be related to terrorism at this time.

Witnesses have described the panic as dozens poured out of the station in panic.

One man described smelling ‘burning like rubber’.

A woman who lives next to the station said she had been evacuated from her flat.

The woman, called Naomi, wrote on Twitter: ‘Got escorted out of my flat next to Southgate tube station.

‘All cornered off but we’re not getting many answers. I have no bra on, one hand painted and my hair’s wet.’
