Tense calm in southern Israel after heavy rocket barrages

A tense quiet has taken hold after a night of heavy fire as Israeli aircraft bombed terror targets across Gaza and Muslim terrorists from Gaza fired at least 100 rockets at Israeli civilians.

Despite Arab reports saying Egypt had mediated a truce late on Monday — which was expected to take effect at 10pm — at least 30 rockets had been fired at southern Israel throughout the night. No one was hurt.

School in southern Israel was canceled on Tuesday. Israeli communities near the Gaza border, as well as the southern cities of Beer Sheva, Ashdod and Ashkelon all announced the cancelation of all school activities following consultations with the Home Front Command.

In the past hours, IDF fighter jets attacked additional terrorist targets in a Hamas terror compound in Dir al-Balah in central Gaza, a terror compound in Bet Hanoun and a terror compound belonging to the Islamic Jihad terror group in Beit Lahiya, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said.

In addition, several terror targets belonging to the Hamas terror group were attacked by tanks and helicopters.

“The Hamas terrorist organization is responsible for all the goings on in and out of the Gaza Strip. The IDF is determined to carry out the task of protecting the citizens of Israel and is prepared for various scenarios and intensifying its operations as necessary,” the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said.

Israeli naval ships targeted the Khan Younis port, while Israeli warplanes struck an underground facility east of Gaza City near the security fence.

“If the aggression  [retaliation] continues, the resistance [Muslim terror groups in Gaza] will not hesitate for a moment to fulfill its role [to target civilians],” the Islamic Jihad terror group said in a statement. Israeli officials, however, stressed that “everything depends on Hamas terror group.”

The latest round of violence began early morning when rocket fired from Gaza hit a home in Moshav Mishmeret in the Sharon area of central Israel.

A woman was light-to-moderate wounded and six others, two of them babies, suffered light injuries. Four dogs did not survive the direct impact.

In response, the IDF bombed Hamas terror targets in Gaza, including terror tunnels, rocket launchers, terror outposts, naval commando facilities, terror training camps.

The IDF confirmed strikes on a secret headquarters of the Hamas terror group that serves the general security, general intelligence, and military intelligence of Hamas.

Israeli jets bombed the offices of Hamas terror group leader Ismail Haniyeh in Gaza City.

Residents in southern Israel posted on social media photos and videos of IDF tanks and military hardware heading toward the Gaza border.
