Russian military police will be deployed in the Syrian Golan to monitor safe zones
BREAKING: Russian military police will be deployed to monitor safe zones being established in Syria, likely as part of the reconciliation agreements and in the framework of talks between Israel and Russia over southern Syria.
The Russian military police have set up 8 checkpoints in the Golan Heights, according to Arab reports.
The IDF confirmed carrying out an air strike overnight, saying it had targeted “several armed terror operatives in the southern Syrian Golan Heights”. The IDF’s statement did not elaborate on any casualties.
Explosive belts and an AK-47 rifle were found in the area.
Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman visited the border with Syria earlier, saying the incidents in the area now have a “clear address” after Syrian dictator Bashar Assad has recaptured the area from ISIS terrorists.
“From our perspective, the situation is returning to how it was before the civil war, meaning there is a real address, someone responsible, and central rule,” Liberman told reporters.
