President Trump meets PM Netanyahu: We are with Israel 100%
U.S. President Donald Trump said in a joint press conference with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US stands with Israel “100 percent.”
“I think the two states solution will work best,” Trump said during a joint press statement with Netanyahu. “A lot of progress has been made, Israel and the Palestinians want to do something. We’ll start moving pretty soon rapidly.”
Trump also addressed tensions between Russia and Israel and promised to “talk with Putin if it’s appropriate”. “We are very much in favor,” he said.
In response, Netanyahu said that “no one has backed Israel like you do and we appreciate it” and thanked Trump for his “strong words and strong actions against Iran at the General Assembly. Secondly for the extraordinary support for Israel in the UN.”
Netanyahu and Trump were expected to discuss the crisis with Moscow over the downed Russian plane by Syria and the threat posed by Iran’s military buildup in that country, the U.S. sanctions on Tehran and the U.S. pressure on the Palestinian Authority in light of Trump’s efforts to deliver a “peace deal.”
Netanyahu earlier met U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and is expected to meet later in the day with Guatemala President Jimmy Morales, Polish President Andrzej Duda and Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
