Pollard asks Netanyahu to intercede with Trump on his parole in 'matter of life and death'

Johnathan Pollard has made a public appeal to PM Netanyahu to personally request that President Trump commute his parole conditions so he could help his wife Esther who is suffering from breast cancer, Pollard told Channel 12 news.

“I can’t take care of my wife properly now because I have no freedom of movement”, said Pollard. “If she needs something in the middle of the night, I can’t leave home.”

“It’s a matter of life and death, it’s a very human issue, it’s a crisis for my wife and me,” he said.

Pollard is confident that Netanyahu will hear his plea and make the call. “I was told by Netanyahu’s office that he would get involved,” he said. I can’t imagine Netanyahu not making an effective call. I can’t imagine Trump refusing.”

The Prime Minister’s Office has responded saying: “Israel remains committed to the return of Jonathan Pollard. The Prime Minister will continue to work until his return to Israel”.

Last November, the US Justice Department rejected PM Netanyahu’s request to allow Jonathan Pollard to immigrate to Israel.

As the reason for the refusal, the Department of Justice named the severity of the acts and offenses committed by Pollard in the 1980s.

In 1984, US Navy intelligence analyst Jonathan Pollard was arrested, accused of spying for Israel. Pollard later pleaded guilty to espionage and was sentenced to life in prison.

Pollard has kept a low profile since being released on November 20, 2015, and is forbidden to speak to the media. No rallies or public events were held after his left prison, and he has rarely been seen in public. Among the terms issued upon Pollard’s release was that he must remain in the US for five years.
