PM Netanyahu sends condolences to the Italian people over tragic consequences of bridge collapse
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his condolences to Italy in the wake of a bridge collapse which claimed at least 35 lives.
“Our hearts go out to the families who are grieving for their loved ones and to the people of Italy 🇮🇹 🇮🇱”, PM Netanyahu twitted.
At least 35 people have been killed including a baby after a major motorway bridge collapsed during a rainstorm in Genoa, Italy.
Witnesses said the bridge was hit by lightning seconds before it collapsed and was seen ‘wobbling’, but engineers rubbished the idea that a bolt from above had anything to do with the disaster.
Among the devastation, a handful of survivors were miraculously plucked from the apocalyptic wreckage and rushed to hospital – some falling in their cars about 45 meters to the ground below.
Photos and videos showed firefighters winching survivors strapped into stretchers from among the boulder-sized pieces of concrete before they were whisked away by emergency helicopters.
