PM Netanyahu delivers a warning to Lebanon in meeting with Pompeo
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is believed to have taken a warning to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Brussels tonight that Lebanon must stop Hezbollah’s efforts to get precision-guided missiles, or Israel will do so.
According to Israeli media, Netanyahu’s warning to Lebanon mentions recent actions by Hezbollah that cross Israel’s red lines.
At the United Nations General Assembly in September, Netanyahu revealed satellite images of three sites in Beirut, including Beirut’s main airport, that are being used by the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group to hide underground precision missile production facilities.
Netanyahu landed in Brussels ahead of is meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The head of the Mossad, the head of the National Security Council and the military secretary also attended the meeting.
The premier and the U.S. secretary of state were originally supposed to meet on Wednesday, but it was rescheduled due to changes that were made in light of George H.W. Bush’s funeral.
“I am now leaving for Brussels for an important meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. We are in continuous contact with our American friends. I will discuss with Mike Pompeo a series of regional developments as well as the steps we are taking together to block the aggression of Iran and its proxies in the north. Of course, we will also discuss other issues”, Netanyahu said prior to his departure for Brussels.
