PA police enter East Jerusalem, violate Israeli sovereignty, shoot Palestinian teen
Palestinian Authority police forces on Wednesday night entered East Jerusalem and shot and seriously wounded a Palestinian teen during an operation to arrest criminal suspects.
The PA forces received authorization from Israel’s Civil Administration to carry out an operation in nearby Qalandiya, but subsequently entered Kafr ‘Aqab, which is under the jurisdiction of the Jerusalem Municipality, and thus under Israeli rule, thereby violating Israeli sovereignty.
While in Kafr ‘Aqab, which is the northernmost Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem bordering on Ramallah, the Palestinian forces entered into a gunfight with armed criminals.
The shootout, part of which was caught on camera, lead to a 15-year-old teenager being caught in the crossfire and getting shot in the head.
The youth can be seen standing near a building with two other teenagers before seemingly getting hit by gunfire and falling over. A group of bystanders quickly rushes over and carries the injured teen away.
The teen was reportedly evacuated to receive medical treatment in Ramallah.
PA security forces spokesman Adnan Damiri said the incident was under investigation and stressed that it was not yet clear whether the teen was hit by policemen’s fire or by that of the gunmen.
