Orphaned in Mumbai massacre, Moshe celebrates his Bar Mitzvah - PM Modi: You inspire everyone

Moshe Holtzberg, orphaned in the Mumbai massacre in which Muslim terrorists murdered his parents 11 years ago this week, was called to the Torah for the first time and celebrated his bar mitzvah in Kfar Chabad, surrounded by friends and family, including the grandparents who raised him and the hero nanny who saved his life.

Moshe received high-profile congratulations on the occasion, with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi writing him a letter and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recording a video message.

“As you make this important transition and cross a significant landmark in the journey of your life, the courage of [nanny] Sandra [Samuel] and prayers of the people of India will continue to bless you for a long, healthy and successful life,” Modi wrote.

“Your story continues to inspire everyone. It is one of miracle and hope overcoming tragedy and immeasurable loss”.

Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg were the directors of the Nariman Chabad House when it was attacked. Along with the couple, four other Israeli and American visitors to the house were murdered.
