Netherlands expels two Iranian embassy staff

The Netherlands has expelled two Iranian embassy staff, the Dutch Intelligence service AIVD said on Friday.

“We can confirm that the Netherlands has expelled two persons accredited to the Iranian embassy,” a spokesperson for Dutch intelligence said.

“We will not provide any further information.”

Last week, Belgian authorities arrested a married couple of Iranian origin and charged them with preparing a terrorist attack in France against the Iranian opposition there.

An Iranian diplomat in Vienna was also detained in Germany.

In his address during the 4th July celebrations in Israel, PM Netanyahu called on European leaders to stop funding Iran, as P4 states recently invited the Iranian president to meet in Europe to discuss ways to bypass US sanctions that are set to be reposed following President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the nuclear deal.
