Netanyahu arrives in Brazil – President-elect Bolsonaro blasts Israel haters
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara have landed in Rio de Janeiro. They were welcomed by Brazilian President-elect Jair Bolsonaro’s son Eduardo and Rio de Janeiro Mayor Marcelo Bezerra Crivella; the Brazilian and Israeli national anthems were played.
Prime Minister Netanyahu will meet with President-elect Bolsonaro later today.
Before setting out for Brazil Thursday, Netanyahu said:
“I am now leaving on a visit to Brazil at the invitation of its president. I will meet with President-elect Bolsonaro and with his ministers of defense, finance, and foreign affairs.
We will discuss Israel’s ties with the largest country in Latin America, the fifth most populous country in the world. Brazil is a huge country with huge potential for the State of Israel, economically, diplomatically and vis-à-vis security. It is a great change that Bolsonaro has declared and I am pleased that we can begin a new era between Israel and the major power called Brazil.”
In anticipation of Netanyahu’s visit, Brazilian President-elect Jair Bolsonaro tweeted, “I’m looking forward to Netanyahu’s visit, during which we’ll discuss new directions for our nations. Israel is a high-tech superpower and that interests us.”
Slamming those in Brazil who blasted Netanyahu’s visit, Bolsonaro said,” Those who did nothing but rob the country, have no right to express criticism.”
