Israel thwarts attempt to smuggle military equipment into Gaza

Israeli security forces at the Erez crossing recently thwarted an attempt to smuggle 172 postal packages containing military equipment that can be used by Muslim terrorists into Gaza, the IDF announced Thursday.

The packages included dual-use weapons and electronic devices that can be used for terrorist purposes: digital microscopes, weapons sights, flashlights and holsters for weapons, drones, electronic components, field telephones, hidden cameras, communication equipment, diving flashlights, and military boots.

As has been the case in the past, authorities confiscated the shipment and launched an investigation to find those responsible for the smuggling attempts.

Commander of the Gaza Coordination and Liaison Administration, Colonel Iyad Sarhan stated, “We take very seriously every attempt to exploit the civilian route of mail transfers… The officers of our crossing, together with the Crossing Points Authority and the Israel Postal Company, work around the clock in order to thwart the smuggling of this type and to prevent the entry of equipment that serves violence and terror.”
