Iran fires 20 rockets at IDF positions as tensions skyrocket on Israel-Syria border
IDF defense systems identified approximately 20 rockets that the Iranian Quds forces launched at IDF positions on the Golan Heights.
Code Red sirens blared in several areas of the Golan Heights and in the city of Katzrin shortly after midnight, sending residents into bomb shelters. Residents have been told to stay in their shelters.
A number of rockets were intercepted by the IDF’s Iron Dome aerial defense system. No injuries were reported.
“The IDF views this event with great severity and remains prepared for a wide variety of scenarios”, the IDF Spokesman’s Unit said in a statement.
This appeared to be one of the few instances of a direct attack on Israel by Iran, which generally operates through proxies.
Media outlets in Syria reported Israeli airstrikes on Hezbollah positions in the Quneitra area and in multiple locations following rockets fired from Syria into Israel.
Hezbollah terror group affiliate media reported that any further retaliation by Israel will be met with larger attacks.
