IDF soldier murdered by Muslim terrorists identified as 19-year-old Dvir Sorek HY’D
💔 HEARTBREAKING – The IDF soldier who was found early Thursday morning murdered by Muslim terrorists in Gush Etzion, has been identified as 19-year-old Dvir Sorek HY’D, from the Jewish community of Ofra.
His funeral will be held in the Ofra civil cemetery today at 20:00. The IDF said his family has requested no media coverage of the funeral.
Dvir was a student at a religious seminary in the Jewish community of Migdal Oz, and had joined the IDF while continuing his studies, in a program known in Hebrew as “hesder”.
Dvir was the grandson of Rabbi Binyamin Herling, who was murdered in a terror attack on Mount Ebal near Shechem, in October 2000.
Dvir was missing since Wednesday evening. Troops began to search the area and found his cellphone near the community of Neve Daniel before his body was found at 03.00 near the community of Migdal Oz with multiple stab wounds.
The IDF was investigating if he was kidnapped before being stabbed to death.
A massive manhunt is underway, with large numbers of troops operating in the area in an effort to locate the terrorists.
President Reuven Rivlin responded to the murder by saying: “We give our prayers this morning in pain and shock, to the family of the soldier who was murdered by a vile person. The heart aches for the brilliance of youth that was cut down by the evil and for the loss of his short and righteous life.”
“We back the security forces who are following the killers and will not rest until we capture them. We will act with a hard and uncompromising hand against terror for the sake of our citizens, wherever they are,” Rivlin added.
PM Netanyahu said: “This morning we were informed about a harsh stabbing attack. The security forces are currently in pursuit to apprehend the abhorrent terrorist and bring him to justice. On behalf of myself and the government, I send condolences to the family.”
