IDF soldier kidnapped and murdered by Muslim terrorists in Gush Etzion
The body of an IDF soldier was discovered early Thursday morning with stab marks, outside the Jewish community of Migdal Oz in Gush Etzion, prompting a massive manhunt for the Muslim terrorists behind the terror attack.
The soldier has been identified as 19-year-old Dvir Sorek HY’D, from the Jewish community of Ofra.
He had been missing since Wednesday evening. The IDF was investigating if he was kidnapped before being stabbed to death.
It was not clear if the soldier would have been in uniform.
Troops began to search the area and found his cellphone near the community of Neve Daniel before his body was found at 03.00 near the community of Migdal Oz with multiple stab wounds.
The soldier was a student at a religious seminary in the Jewish community of Migdal Oz, and had joined the IDF while continuing his studies, in a program known in Hebrew as “hesder”.
A massive manhunt is underway, with large numbers of troops operating in the area in an effort to locate the terrorists.
“This is a serious terror attack,” said IDF Spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Ronen Manelis, adding that there are details of the murder still under a gag order by the Shin Bet.
President Reuven Rivlin responded to the murder by saying: “We give our prayers this morning in pain and shock, to the family of the soldier who was murdered by a vile person. The heart aches for the brilliance of youth that was cut down by the evil and for the loss of his short and righteous life.”
“We back the security forces who are following the killers and will not rest until we capture them. We will act with a hard and uncompromising hand against terror for the sake of our citizens, wherever they are,” Rivlin added.
PM Netanyahu said: “This morning we were informed about a harsh stabbing attack. The security forces are currently in pursuit to apprehend the abhorrent terrorist and bring him to justice. On behalf of myself and the government, I send condolences to the family.”
