IDF reinforces troops near the Gaza border – Iron Dome deployed in southern Israel
The IDF said it was reinforcing troops around Gaza on Thursday as a precaution against Muslim terrorists attempting to infiltrate into Israel during violent riots along the security border fence with Gaza.
“The Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot and senior IDF and Shin Bet officials decided to implement wide-scale reinforcements in the Southern Command and to continue acting to thwart terror and infiltrations from Gaza. Hamas is responsible for Gaza and all that emanates from it”, the IDF said in a statement.
As part of the reinforcement of forces, the IDF deployed additional Iron Dome batteries in various areas in southern Israel.
Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman held an assessment session this afternoon on the situation in Gaza, together with the chief of staff, head of military intelligence, Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), and other security officials.
Liberman instructed the IDF to maintain “maximum preparedness for any scenario,” according to his office.
IDF intel reportedly points to Hamas attempting a terror attack either through terror tunnels from Gaza or ‘naval commandos’ infiltrating from the sea in order to attack IDF forces and try to kidnap a soldier.
On Thursday afternoon, the IDF safely detonated a large explosive device that was planted by Muslim terrorists near the security border fence with Gaza during earlier riots.
At least 4 fires broke out today in Israeli towns near the Gaza border due to incendiary balloons launched by Muslim terrorists from Gaza into Israel.
