Humanitarian gesture: Israel rescues 800 White Helmets and families from southern Syria
BREAKING: Israel helped to rescue 800 White Helmets and families from Syria and moved them to Jordan.
The civilians were evacuated from the war zone in Southern Syria due to an immediate threat to their lives and were subsequently transferred to a ‘neighboring country’, the IDF said.
Israel continues to maintain a non-intervention policy regarding the Syrian conflict and continues to hold the Syrian regime accountable for all activities in Syrian territory
The transfer of the displaced Syrians through Israel is an exceptional humanitarian gesture.
The IDF said the rescue mission was conducted following a request from the United States and other European countries.
This was a “one-time” operation because their lives were in danger.
The IDF has provided life-saving humanitarian aid to Syrian civilians through Operation “Good Neighbor” for several years, as a good-will gesture, while maintaining a policy of non-intervention in the Syrian conflict.
PM Netanyahu on rescuing the “White Helmets” from Syria: “Several days ago President Trump contacted me, as did Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau and others, and requested that we assist in evacuating hundreds of ‘white helmets’ from Syria”.
“These are people who have saved lives and whose lives were in danger. Therefore, I approved their passage through Israel to additional countries, as an important humanitarian gesture”.
“Concurrently, we will not stop taking action in Syria against Iran’s attempts to establish a military presence there. At the same time we are also taking action in the south. We hit Hamas very hard over the weekend and – if it proves necessary – we will hit them seven-fold”, PM Netanyahu concluded.
