A Muslim terrorist wearing a suicide vest was prevented from approaching a church in Qalyubiyah, a governorate north of Cairo, and detonated the vest about 250 meters from the church, blowing himself up but no one else, state news agency MENA reported.

Christians constitute around 10 percent of Egypt’s predominantly Muslim population. Sectarian violence erupts occasionally, mainly in rural communities in the south.

Muslim terrorists have claimed several attacks on Egypt’s large Christian minority in recent years, including two deadly bombings on Palm Sunday in April 2017 and a blast at Cairo’s largest Coptic cathedral in December 2016 that killed 28 people.

The most recent attack came last December, when a Muslim terrorist fired on worshippers at a Coptic Orthodox church in a Cairo suburb, killing 11 in a terror attack claimed by ISIS.

Last month, a Coptic Bishop was found dead with his head smashed inside a monastery in the desert northwest of Cairo.
