Egyptian army uncovers, demolishes 9 terror tunnels linking Gaza to Sinai
Egyptian anti-terrorism forces, in cooperation with army engineers, have uncovered and destroyed nine terror tunnels linking the Sinai Peninsula to Gaza, the Egyptian armed forces said in a statement on Thursday.
The 30-meter-deep tunnels were used by Muslim terrorists to smuggle weapons, ammunition and explosive materials.
Power cables and fuel were found inside the tunnels, the statement added.
Two vehicles used by terrorists, 40 bombs and materials used in manufacturing explosives were destroyed.
The operation launched based on intelligence information comes as part of the Egyptian Army’s efforts to purge North Sinai from terrorism.
Egypt has been fighting Muslim terrorists that murdered hundreds of policemen, soldiers and civilians.
Most of the terror attacks were centered in North Sinai and claimed by a Sinai-based branch of the ISIS terror group.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian army and police eliminated hundreds of Muslim terrorists during the country’s anti-terror war declared by President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi.
