Egypt: ISIS terrorists in Sinai intercept Iranian Gaza-bound missiles shipment

ISIS-linked terrorists in Sinai seized a shipment of dozens of ‘Grad’ rockets heading to Gaza, i24News reported on Tuesday citing Arab sources.

According to the sources, the shipment likely arrived in Libya from Iran and was supposed to be smuggled into Gaza with the intention to reach Hamas or Islamic Jihad terror groups.

The Grad is a mid-range rocket used mainly by the Islamic Jihad in Gaza. It has a maximum range of 40 kilometers and carries a 20-kilogram warhead. The new advanced Grad missiles range 60 to 80 kilometers and can reach Tel Aviv.

According to the report, ISIS terrorists seized the shipment on the 24th of August, after stopping a truck carrying the missiles, as well as a vehicle behind it with several arms smugglers inside.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad terror groups are constantly working to upgrade its rocket capabilities and, more than anything, to enable its rockets to circumvent the Iron Dome defense missile system.

In addition, Iran is providing Hamas with the technical know-how to produce better, longer-range rockets.

Hundreds of Muslim terrorists have been eliminated by the Egyptian army, backed by police and other security forces since it launched a wide-scale operation in February 2018 aimed at eradicating terrorists, mostly members of ISIS or related Muslim terror groups in the Sinai peninsula. The operation is still ongoing.
