Egypt: 15-year-old Muslim teen-terrorist blows himself up, murders 7 in Sinai
A Muslim teen suicide bomber murdered four members of Egypt’s security forces and three civilians in a terror attack in the North Sinai region, the interior ministry said.
‘The suicide bomber aged 15 blew himself up’ by a police station in the town of Sheikh Zuweid leaving seven dead and 26 wounded, an interior ministry statement said.
ISIS terror group released a statement on its social media accounts claiming responsibility and praising the suicide bomber.
While Egyptian security forces have reduced the capabilities of ISIS in the Sinai, the terror group remains a threat that could increase if terrorists of Iraq and Syria were to seek to bolster the group in Egypt.
Hundreds of soldiers and policemen have been killed in a string of terror attacks that have also claimed the lives of civilians, particularly among the minority Coptic Christian community.
Egypt in February last year launched a military offensive against ISIS in the
Sinai peninsula. Around 600 Muslim terrorists and about 40 soldiers have been killed so far, according to officials.
