Sergeant Evyatar Yosefi dies after being swept into Hilazon river during a navigation exercise

An IDF soldier was killed Monday during a Gadsar elite paratrooper navigation exercise after being swept into the Hilazon river near Karmiel in northern Israel.

A notice was given to his family.

He was identified as Evyatar Yosefi, a 20-year-old resident of Givat Shmuel who served in the Paratroopers Brigade. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant.

Following the incident, the commander of the ground forces, Major General Kobi Barak, ordered the halting of all the navigation exercises in the IDF.

According to IDF Spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Ronen Manelis the soldier tried to cross the stream which was at a height of 0.5meters-1 meter, with another soldier at around 5 in the morning. While the first soldier succeeded in crossing the stream the second didn’t.

He was found two hours later by rescue services 100 meters from where he fell into the water.
