Watch: Netanyahu meets Bolton – Netanyahu asked President Trump to recognize Israeli Golan
U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons was a very high priority for the United States.
Bolton said that despite US sanctions and US withdrawal from the 2015 deal on Iran’s nuclear development program, Iran is still seeking to deliver nuclear weapons. The US and Israel are committed to making sure that doesn’t happen.
Netanyahu says he and Bolton will head tomorrow to the Golan Heights.
“When you’re there, you’ll understand why we’ll never leave the Golan Heights, and why it’s important for all countries to recognize Israeli sovereignty”. Netanyahu said he has discussed the issue with President Donald Trump.
Israel captured 1,200 square kilometers (460 square miles) of the Golan Heights from Syria in the Six-Day War of 1967 and later annexed it in a move never recognized by the international community.
Earlier on Sunday Bolton visited the Western Wall and toured the ancient tunnels beneath the Western Wall in Jerusalem’s Old City.
Bolton watched a virtual reality tour of the historic site and dined there with his Israeli equivalent as well as U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman and Israel’s ambassador to the U.S., Ron Dermer.
