WATCH – Israel nearly completes world-first underwater barrier on the Gaza border to stop Hamas terrorists

After seven months, the IDF has nearly completed the construction of an underwater barrier along the border, designed to prevent maritime infiltrations into Israel by terror groups in Gaza.

The barrier is made up of three layers, including one below sea level, a layer of armored stone and a third layer with barbed wire. In addition, a fence will surround the breakwater to provide a final measure of security.

The decision to erect the naval barricade was made after a terrorist cell managed to infiltrate into Israel by sea from the strip during Operation Protective Edge in 2014.

Armed with automatic weapons, fragmentation grenades and several types of explosive devices, they were engaged and eliminated by the IDF in a combined attack from the sea, ground and air.
