Germany: Attempted car ramming attack at Hannover airport

German police have put the Hannover Airport on lockdown and swept security areas after a man of undisclosed ethnicity rammed through a gate in a vehicle and drove on the tarmac before being stopped, neutralized and detained there.

“A man broke through a gate and drove to the tarmac. Police officers managed to stop the vehicle and overpower the man,” Hannover police wrote on their Twitter page.

A police spokesman said the car, with a Polish license plate, managed to get on to the runway just after a plane had landed.

Several flights have been diverted from the airport or delayed.
