The US refuses to allow Jonathan Pollard to immigrate to Israel
The United States Justice Department rejected PM Netanyahu’s request to allow Jonathan Pollard to immigrate to Israel, where he would remain under restrictive conditions as part of an agreement between the countries, Israeli media reported Wednesday.
As the reason for the refusal, the Department of Justice named the severity of the acts and offenses committed by Pollard in the 1980s.
Today 33 years ago US Navy intelligence analyst Jonathan Pollard was arrested, accused of spying for Israel. Pollard later pleaded guilty to espionage and was sentenced to life in prison.
Pollard has kept a low profile since being released on November 20, 2015, and is forbidden to speak to the media. No rallies or public events were held after his left prison, and he has rarely been seen in public.
