Security forces raid office of Palestinian Authority’s governor for Jerusalem district
The Shin Bet, Israel Police, Border Police and IDF forces raided Sunday the headquarters of the Palestinian Authority’s governor for Jerusalem district in Al-Ram, an Arab town located north of Jerusalem.
Shin Bet said in a statement a joint counter-terrorism operation was over “illegal activity by the PA in Jerusalem”.
It came after Israel’s detention of the Palestinian Authority governor, Adnan Gheith, on October 20. He was released two days later.
Gheith was taken into custody in connection with the abduction of an Arab man from eastern Jerusalem who helped facilitate the sale of an Arab-owned property to Jews recently.
The PA’s Jerusalem affairs minister, Adnan al-Husseini, told AFP that Israeli forces confiscated documents and material during the raid.
The same building houses his ministry and the governor’s office, both of which he said were raided in the first such Israeli counter-terrorism operation.
