Freedom is Basic? – Bar Refaeli removes burqa, sparks fury and islamophobia cries
Bar Refaeli has sparked fury in the latest advert for her Israeli clothing brand by pulling off a burqa and saying, ‘Freedom is basic.’
Images of Rafaeli wearing a burqa appeared in newspapers and on billboards around Israel this weekend, all featuring the words, “Iran is here?”
The commercial for Hoodies’ winter collection was launched on Monday on YouTube and was shared on Bar Refaeli’s Instagram.

She has since deleted the post which was visible to her 2.7m followers, but it remains on the clothing brand’s YouTube account.
Bar is a part-owner of the Hoodies clothing company and they say that the commercial is designed to ‘call out racism and bigotry and support freedom.’
Another version of the ad has been released, which includes transgender actress Stav Strashko, Orthodox TV presenter Melech Zilbershlag, Ethiopian-Israeli model Tahounia Rubel and Muslima reality star Shams Mara’i Abumuh.
