Terror in China: Muslim terrorist blows himself up outside the US embassy in Beijing
BREAKING: A Muslim terrorist blew himself up outside the US embassy in Beijing, close to the main compound.
The suicide bomber, a 26-year-old Muslim from China’s Inner Mongolia region, had injured his hand and been taken to hospital.
The embassy, in the Chaoyang District, is near other embassies, including India’s.
A small amount of debris could be seen at the scene of the attempted terror attack, which occurred at about 1 p.m. local time on Thursday. An area outside the embassy in the Chinese capital’s Chaoyang district is still cordoned off by authorities.
“There was one individual who detonated a bomb. Other than the bomber, there were no injuries. The local police responded,” the US Embassy spokesperson said in a statement.
Some footage shows confusion with long lines of cars stopped on the road and people standing on the streets.
Police have cordoned off an area and were working around something covered with a blue tarpaulin.
