PM Netanyahu praises Nikki Haley’s statement exposing the hypocrisy of the UN’s bias against Israel
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised US ambassador Nikki Haley for her defense of Israel in the U.N. and her efforts to get an amendment to the resolution added that would condemn Hamas violence.
“Israel appreciates the firm support of the Trump administration in Israel at the United Nations and Ambassador Haley’s resolute statement today, which exposed the hypocrisy of the bias against Israel at the U.N.,” he said in a statement
“This resolution blames everything on Israel,” Haley said in her remarks, adding that “it does not even mention Hamas.”
Kuwait tried to pass earlier this month a similar resolution at the UN Security Council, which condemned Israel for using “excessive force” against the Muslim terrorists and called for a UN protection force to defend the terrorists in Gaza. However, it was vetoed by the United States.
Washington then presented its own resolution calling on the council to condemn Hamas. The resolution failed to pass, but focused the discussion on Hamas’s terrorist activities.
“In the face of Hamas terrorists routinely inciting violence, firing over a hundred rockets into Israeli communities, and even attacking the crossing point that brings humanitarian supplies into Gaza, today the UN made the morally bankrupt judgment that the recent Gaza violence is all Israel’s fault,” said Haley in a statement.
“It is no wonder that no one takes the UN seriously as a force for Middle East peace. But the common practice of turning a blind eye to the UN’s anti-Israel bias is changing. Today, a plurality of 62 countries voted in favor of the U.S.-led effort to address Hamas’s responsibility for the disastrous conditions in Gaza. We had more countries on the right side than the wrong side.”
“By their votes, those countries recognized that peace will only be achieved when realities are recognized, including Israel’s legitimate security interests, and the need to end Hamas’ terrorism,” concluded Haley.
Addressing the General Assembly, Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon also slammed accused the body of “empowering Hamas” if it supported the resolution.
“I am here today to stand up for a basic right, the right afforded to every country in the world. The right to defend its citizens,” Danon began in his speech.
The resolution, he charged, was “the international community’s attempt to take away our basic right to defend itself.”
“By supporting this resolution, you are colluding with a terrorist organization. By supporting this resolution, you are empowering Hamas,” he said.
Urging countries to read the resolution, which makes no mention of Hamas, Danon asked: “Do you support terrorism? Do you support suicide bombers?”
