Five Wounded, Attacker Dead After Stabbing Spree at US university

A suspect at the University of California, Merced, was shot dead by police early Wednesday after wounding at least five students in a campus stabbing spree, university officials said.

Officials said incident occurred at about 8 a.m. local time in the school’s Classroom and Office Building.

Two of the victims were airlifted to the hospital, while three others were treated at the school. All were conscious, the school tweeted.

The school, which has more than 6,600 students is located 120 miles south of Sacramento, remained on lockdown and classes were canceled for the day.

The names of the victims and suspect were not immediately released.
