Syrian rebels claim Israel infiltrated territory

A Syrian opposition group on Wednesday condemned Israel for allegedly crossing 400 meters into Syrian territory.

“Free Deraa Province Council condemns the aggression that the Israeli enemy undertook and represented by its penetration and infiltration into Syrian lands at a distance of 400m,” read a statement posted online. “And we consider this aggression that the Israeli enemy undertook to be aggression against all Syrians, exploiting the revolution and war that the Syrian people are waging against the regime of Bashar al-Assad.

“And we demand the international community in all its organizations to stand with its responsibilities by putting a stop to the repeated Israeli violations against Syrian lands,” continued the statement. “And we remind it that the Syrian people have expended thousands of martyrs in the path of attaining their freedom and will not hesitate to expend more martyrs to stop this usurping enemy on its limit.”

Also Wednesday, fierce bombardment of two opposition-held Syrian towns killed at least 31 civilians including children, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said.

Most were killed in air raids likely carried out by either President Bashar al-Assad’s regime or its Russian ally, the Observatory said.

The attacks come despite the army’s extension of a nationwide truce until early Friday. The freeze in fighting has yet to produce any respite in violence.
