Woman stabbed to death in Swedish refugee facility
A woman was stabbed in a brawl at a center for unaccompanied refugee minors on Monday in southern Sweden. She has died of her injuries.
At about 8 am, the Molndal police were alerted about a fight that broke out at a local center for children and teens, local media say.
A 22-year old female, a member of the staff was taken to Sahlgrenska Hospital with severe wounds, but later died.
“The woman who was taken to Sahlgrenska Hospital this morning died because of the injuries she received in connection with the altercation, relatives are informed,” police spokesman Christer Fuxborg said, as quoted by Aftonbladet newspaper.
Police say an investigation into the incident has been launched. The event could be classified as either murder or manslaughter.
The attacker, who lives at the facility, has been arrested and remains in police custody.His identity has yet to be known.
It isn’t clear as to how many residents were involved in the fight. A few have reportedly been detained for questioning, however it is slow progress due to language barriers.
“It is difficult for us to communicate with each other, as some of them don’t speak Swedish. We are about to find out what happened,” Fuxborg said, as quoted by Göteborgs-Posten.
A colleague of the victim, Amal Hassan said when she arrived at the scene of the event: “I am shocked. All who live here are very nice. There has never been trouble before,”
The facility in Molndal is a private center. From reports, it has been running well since it first opened in September of 2015. Ten adolescent refugees reside there currently.
