H&M Features Its First Muslim Model in Hijab

A 23-year-old Muslim woman has become the first model to wear a hijab in an H&M campaign.

Mariah Idrissi, who is of Pakistani and Moroccan heritage and based in London, appears in the high street brand’s video wearing a checkered hijab and sunglasses.

H&M – the world’s second largest global retailer – invited Mariah to star in the ad by way of a model scout, and at first she was skeptical.

With the permission of her parents, however, she went ahead on the basis of it being for a ‘good cause’.

As the number of Muslims in Britain increases, so will their prominence in the media.
