Hamas commander who fled Gaza by swimming provides valuable intel about the terror group
BREAKING: The Shin Bet has received valuable information on the Hamas terror group, derived from the interrogation of one of its Muslim terrorists who fled Gaza after being persecuted by the terror group and attempted to infiltrate into Israel by swimming.
“Our Navy’s maritime intelligence located a suspect attempting to infiltrate Israel by swimming from Gaza last month. Upon locating him, troops from the Navy’s security unit pursued and apprehended him. Land, air, or sea, we continue to fight against terror,” the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit tweeted.
On June 28, 2020, Izz al-Din Hussein, 24, a Hamas terrorist resident of Jabalya in northern Gaza, infiltrated into Israeli territory by swimming. According to him, he fled Gaza voluntarily due to personal problems at the family level and after persecution and defamation by senior Hamas terrorists.
Immediately after crossing the naval barrier, he was arrested by an IDF force and taken for questioning by the Shin Bet.
In 2013 he joined the Hamas terror group armed wing Izz ad-Din al-Qassam, whose sole mission is to murder Jews. From 2018 until his arrest, Hussein was a commander in the Hamas “air defense system” and headed the shoulder-fired missile “squadron”.
Hussein said in his investigation that he held an anti-aircraft missile in his home and was instructed to fire it at an Israeli helicopter, so it would land near his home in order to murder or abduct IDF soldiers.
As part of his terror activities in Hamas, Hussein took part in various training and terror activities against the State of Israel.
As part of his terror activities, Hussein learned about Israeli Air Force aircraft and their role, anti-aircraft missiles, as well as field glasses and cameras to observe the movement of Israeli aircraft in the skies of Gaza.
Hussein’s terror activities in Hamas and the vast knowledge he acquired in this framework led to a unique investigation that revealed to the Shin Bet a great amount of intelligence about the Hamas terror group.
Following the investigation, the Southern District Attorney’s Office filed today an indictment for serious security offenses in the Beer Sheva District Court.
