IDF soldier murdered in rock-throwing attack during counter-terrorism operation in Samaria
BREAKING – An IDF soldier was murdered by Muslim terrorists who dropped a large rock on his head during a counter-terrorism operation in northern Samaria.
The soldier, a member of the Golani Brigade, has been named as 21-year-old Staff Sgt Amit Ben Ygal, from Ramat Gan.
Amit was an only child who insisted on serving in a combat unit.
“He promised he would come back next weekend, he promised he would come back and he said yesterday that he will take care of himself and he did not,” Osher Nachum, Amit’s girlfriend said.
At around 4 am, a unit from the Golani Reconnaissance Battalion arrived at the Arab village of Ya’bad near Jenin in northern Samaria to arrest four wanted Muslim terrorists.
About half an hour later, a large stone was dropped on them from a rooftop, critically injuring staff Seargent Amit Ben Yigal.
The IDF says he was wearing a helmet. He was evacuated via helicopter to the Rambam Hospital in Haifa, where he was pronounced dead.
IDF troops are currently operating inside Ya’bad to locate the Muslim terrorists who murdered Staff Seargent Amit.
Defense Minister Naftali Bennet said the IDF will pursue the terrorists responsible for his death and bring them to justice.
“On behalf of myself and the citizens of Israel, I would like to send sincere condolences to the family of Amit Ben-Yigal, who was killed by depraved individuals during an operation last night. As has occurred in all the cases in recent years, the long arm of Israel will reach the terrorist and settle accounts with him,” PM Netanyahu said in a statement.
“At this difficult time, my thoughts are with the family of Master Sergeant Amit Ben Yigal who fell last night defending us all. Heartbroken at youth cut down in its prime. Our forces will reach the despicable terrorists and justice will be done. May his memory be a blessing,” President Reuven Rivlin tweeted.
In a similar terror attack in 2018, Duvdevan soldier Ronen Lubarsky died from critical injuries he sustained during a counter-terrorism operation in al-Amari when a Muslim terrorist, Islam Yusuf Abu Hamid threw a marble block at him from the third floor of a building.
