Medical equipment urgently needed in Israel stuck in Turkey – because of Erdogan

Relations between Israel and Turkey face another crisis: Hundreds of crates containing medical equipment urgently needed in the Israeli health system are stuck in Istanbul due to dictator Erdogan’s demand to deliver a similar amount of gear directly ‘to the Palestinians’.

Angered by the extortion, Israeli officials called it propaganda and said that anyone who wants to directly transfer equipment to the PA was already permitted to do so.

“If Erdogan tries to do propaganda, we won’t let him do it,” Israeli officials said.

The crates containing medical gear, including personal protective equipment, are being held in an Istanbul warehouse.

The equipment, meant to be used in Israeli medical facilities, including Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, was purchased by Israeli civilians, not by the government.

Yesterday, Bloomberg reported that Turkey was to fly a shipment of medical equipment, including face masks and protective suits, into Israel, despite tense relations between the countries.

The shipment of face masks, protective suits and sterile gloves was approved for humanitarian reasons and a similar shipment is expected to be sent to the Palestinian Authority within the next few days, according to a senior Turkish official in Ankara.

A Turkish plane landed in Israel on Tuesday, loaded with 120 stranded Israeli Arabs, residents of the PA and from East Jerusalem that were studying in Turkey.
