Israel’s Health Minister Yaakov Litzman infected with coronavirus

BREAKING: Israel’s Health Minister Yaakov Litzman and his wife have tested positive for coronavirus.

According to the Health Ministery office, the 71-year-old ultra-orthodox minister and his wife are feeling well and will remain in quarantine in accordance with the ministry’s guidelines.

Those who have been exposed to Minister Litzman and his wife in the past 14 days, will be notified and required to be in isolation.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi and two other generals have entered self-isolation yesterday. The measures have been taken after it was revealed that a commander in reserve service who participated in a meeting held on March 22 has been diagnosed with coronavirus.

The Head of the Homefront Command Maj.-Gen Tamir Yadai and the Head of Operations Divisions Maj.-Gen. Aaron Haliva also attended the same meeting and will enter quarantine until the end of the week.

PM Netanyahu tested negative for the coronavirus on Monday after a parliamentary aide was confirmed to be carrying the virus.

Netanyahu and his staff temporarily isolated themselves until the end of an epidemiological study that is expected to reveal that he was not exposed to the coronavirus. He said at a press conference that he did so voluntarily in order to set an example for the public.

Israel’s Health Ministry regulations require 14-day self-isolation for anyone deemed to have been in proximity to a carrier, with the duration reduced for the number of days that have passed since the suspected exposure.

Earlier tonight, PM Netanyahu announced tonight new coronavirus restrictions on the public, including that people must cover themselves with facial masks outdoors. All movement in and out of the highly infected ultra-orthodox city of Bnei Brak will be strongly restricted.

The number of coronavirus infections in Israel has risen to 6,092 as of Wednesday night, with 25 fatalities, 95 people in serious condition, including 81 patients on ventilators, and the vast majority of cases in light condition.

The condition of 129 is moderate, while 5,602 patients are in light condition.
