Norwegian vessel catches fire in the Persian Gulf amid Iran-backed attacks
BREAKING: A Norwegian tanker was reported to be on fire near the United Arab Emirates due to unknown causes, after Iranian-backed terrorists in Yemen claimed a string of terror attacks on Saudi oil facilities.
The UK’s Maritime Trade Operations said the fire struck a vessel northwest of Sharjah, an Emirati sheikhdom. It offered no further information about the vessel.
The Emirati coastguard is now assisting the vessel, Emirati and European officials said. They added it was unclear what had triggered the fire–which was spotted by a nearby vessel around 1600 local time as the tanker was anchored.
Last week, Saudi Arabia’s air defense forces intercepted missiles aimed at Saudi Aramco oil facilities after Iran-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen said they had targeted the company and other sites in Saudi Arabia.
