Iranian students refuse to trample US, Israeli flags, demand ‘death to liars’ over shot down plane
Shahid Beheshti university students in Tehran were filmed refusing to trample an American and an Israeli flag painted on the floor, amid anti-government marches and a warning to Iran from President Trump to ‘not kill protesters’.
“You are responsible for this, you are lying to us that the enemy is America, but the enemy is right here,” they were heard chanting in the videos.
Using one’s shoes to step on something is considered particularly insulting in Islamic tradition.
The Iranian regime’s policy of hatred and terrorism is rejected by Iranians themselves.
Angry crowds gathered on Saturday night and Sunday morning in several locations in Tehran, chanting “death to liars” and calling for the country’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to step down, after the country admitted to shooting down a Ukrainian passenger plane “accidentally”.
“Death to the Islamic Republic” protesters chanted, as the regime’s paramilitary security force used ambulances to sneak heavily armed paramilitary police into the middle of crowds to disperse the demonstration.
President Trump issued a warning to Iran: “To the leaders of Iran – DO NOT KILL YOUR PROTESTERS. Thousands have already been killed or imprisoned by you, and the World is watching,” he tweeted.
“More importantly, the USA is watching. Turn your internet back on and let reporters roam free! Stop the killing of your great Iranian people!”, President Trump added.
PM Netanyahu this morning, at the start of the weekly Cabinet meeting, said that Iran lied about shooting down a Ukrainian passenger plane and murdering all 176 on board, just as they lied about their secret nuclear program.
“I note the courage of the Iranian people who are again demonstrating in the streets against this regime. They deserve freedom, liberty and the ability to live in security and peace, all of which the regime denies them”.
“Iran lied. Just as they lied about their secret nuclear program, they are lying now about the downing of the Ukrainian aircraft. They knew from the start that they had downed it. They knew that it was an unintentional downing, but they lied intentionally. They deceived the world”, Netanyahu said.
“This is completely contrary to how a civilized country should act and we send our condolences to the victims of Iran’s deception and negligence”, he added.
On Saturday morning Iran announced that its military “unintentionally” shot down a Ukrainian plane, murdering all 176 on board.
The statement blames “human error” for the attack, adding that the military mistook Flight 752 for a “hostile target”, probably meaning a plane carrying American citizens on board.
Iran had denied for several days that a missile downed the aircraft. But then the US and Canada, citing intelligence, said they believed Iran shot down the aircraft.
