Jewish astronaut Jessica Meir wishes all Jews on Earth happy Hanukkah
Jewish astronaut Jessica Meir celebrated the first day of Hanukkah in space.
“Happy Hanukkah to all those who celebrate it on Earth!” she tweeted alongside a photo of her Hanukkah-themed socks with the view of Earth in the background.
Meir and fellow NASA astronaut Christina Koch conducted the first all-female spacewalk outside of the International Space Station in October.
Meir, who arrived on the space station late September, is scheduled to spend more than six months on board the station.
In the past, Meir has also shared photos of Israel from space, commemorating her father.
“My father’s globe spanning journey as a surgeon from the Middle East, to Europe, and eventually to the U.S. was an inspiration to many in my immediate and extended family. #TheJourney,” Meir tweeted in November.
President Rivlin responded to Meir writing, “Dear Jessica thank you for taking us with you on your space voyage. We are proud of you and send warm regards from Israel.”
