US considers sending 14,000 more troops to the Middle East amid tensions with Iran
BREAKING: The Trump administration is considering sending 14,000 additional troops to the Middle East as well as more military equipment, including dozens of more ships and other military hardware to increase its presence in the region, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.
Unnamed officials said President Trump es expected to make a decision on the possible new deployment of troops this month.
The report comes as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iran is the main topic.
The decision to send more troops to the region comes amid rising tensions over Iran, particularly after the attacks on Saudi Aramco’s oil facilities in September, which were orchestrated by Tehran.
Earlier today, a US Navy warship seized a “significant cache” of Iranian guided missile parts headed to Iranian-proxy terrorists in Yemen.
There is fresh intelligence in the last month of a potential Iranian threat against US forces and interests in the Middle East, several US defense and administration US officials said on Tuesday.
