IDF helicopter crash-lands, bursts into flames in southern Israel – No casualties
An IDF “Yasur” helicopter crash-landed in the Negev desert in southern Israel, near Kibbutz Beit Kama, following a technical malfunction that led to a fire in the engine.
Firefighters arrived at the scene after the soldiers were evacuated, gaining control of the fire.
No casualties were reported.
The incident is currently under investigation.
Israel obtained the CH-53 transport helicopter, known in the IAF as Yasur, from the US in the late 60s, and it has since been considered one of the workhorses of the Israel Air Force.
In the last decades, the IAF has enhanced its Yasur helicopters by installing advanced avionics systems.
