Abbas blocks 59 rival news sites over 'national security' and 'general morality'

Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas, who is serving the 15th year of his 4-year term, has ordered to block 59 Arab news websites in Judea and Samaria, including major networks supporting Hamas and Abbas’ rivals as well as Israeli Arab sites.

A Palestinian Authority court in Ramallah made the decision based on the attorney general’s demand that sites these sites constitute a disturbance to public order and “threaten general morality.”

Hamas terror group attacked the move, saying that “the Palestinian Authority is burying its head in the sand in its attempts to prevent freedom of expression and return the national press to a dark era”.
